NBC News Republican Debate in Florida: Hubris Over Common Sense?

Leave it to liberal media to accentuate the hubris inherent in our politicans. Will they invoke the same debate tactic when we are in General Election? We can only hope, and we can only hope our candidate in that scenario is…Ron Paul. Because Obama will go same route as Romney and Gingrinch tonight, and Paul will make him look equally....well, silly.

Ah yes. A voice of reason among those who could not find it within themselves for the better part of the first half hour of this debate…to make it anything but about themselves. When given the minimal chance to speak however, Paul’s words connected. They had substance and real life solutions that are most important to ALL of us today. I’ll take quality over quantity ANY day.

For the first half hour, Paul and Santorum were left out of the discussion, due to Brian Williams’ purposely leaving them out, and letting Romney and Gingrinch run the floor. It is the moderators job to, guess what…moderate. Williams did not control the candidates for the first half hour of this debate…he let it go on….and on…and on. His bad.

Coming back from the first break, he tried to regroup, and let ALL candidates have some time…measured, but that very small window he gave Ron Paul, and yes even Santorum, made our “front runners” look small, and insignificant. Paul was the only one using common sense, and Americans as basis for his arguments tonight…and any night. Santorum was second on that in this debate. What else should we expect though from Brian Williams and NBC? They deliberately pitted Romney and Gingrinch against each other for some heartland conservative red meat…and it fell short. Gingrinch did not “play” tonight, and Romney never knew how to play.

Instead, most important questions for Floridians, and all of us were posed to Paul and Santorum…foreclosures, wars, and economy. Pauls answer on wars spending was loudest, and almost only applause I heard tonight.

Terry Shiavo? Not to be insensitive, but do the millions of people in Florida out of jobs, in foreclosure, or upside down on their mortgages really hold this as top priority? Come on Brian. NASA? Florida needs it, but country as a whole has to heal first…do you reporters only care about your home state, or our country as a whole? Way to bait the Republican candidates Liberal media…I did like Gingrinch’s answer on private vs government funding though.

In any case, this was by far the least enlightening debate of all of them. Stupid questions on candidate vs candidate as opposed to our Nations plight, and I wonder why ANYONE considers Brian Williams a serious Journalist.

Romney, I believe you…you have been successful. I would pat you on the back, but your arm is in the way. Gingrinch, I believe you…you are the single reason for the collapse of the Soviet Empire, and why the Reagan years were so superficially great…I’d pat you too on the back, but your arm is in the way.

Ron Paul. I believe you…I will pat you on the back, because YOUR arm is NOT in the way.

Hubris…excessive pride always comes before a horrific fall. Our choice in this election…who we elect will most definitely define either our strength, or our fall.

This was I hope an eye opening debate for Americans...ego-maniacles, self serving, vs those who speak to only how policies effect the people. First half hour was childish debate between Romney and Gingrinch...Romney worse, but both behaved badly. "I did this...I did that" WHATEVER!! I was sickened by both their "selves"...breath of relief when Paul did finally get to speak, and it wasn't just cause I already like him...he was the first one who realized there is no "I" in team!

Ron Paul was given 4 minutes to speak in this so called debate but, they were very powerful minutes. No wonder the establishment goes out of their way to block him Wake up people! I hope those who care to will share this in their networks

I'm getting tired of the two-headed Gingrich/Romney monster. They are starting to sound the same to me.Let Santorum and Paul have more time.

I tend to think that hubris is Gingrich's major obstacle. Every time I see him, he just strikes me as condescending and full of himself. I'm not sure how that will play with independent voters, which may be why Obama is beating him by double-digits in theoretical polling. I may not agree with Rick Santorum, Mitt Romney, or Ron Paul on policy, but at least they seem relatively down-to-earth compared to Newt.

I agree that Ron Paul is the most humble. He's also the most consistently principled. I like his moxy to stick to his guns, though I think his consistency leads him to advocating some poor positions.

Romney was in hubris mode full tilt tonight...if it's what they pull out at any time, it shows true colors, and after Bush and Obama... no more for me.

I said in last article I would pull lever for Gingrinch if need be...I'd rather write in principled. Paul's "weakness" according to MSM and FOW News is foreign policy...funny, he always gets applause and Netanayhu endorses what he says...they don't want nation building either!

I don't think after tonight's debate, I can pull lever for anyone BUT Paul...I'll follow him on delegate count to bitter end.

good job lisa

there is no choice but Paul....and while the liberals dont like his strick constitutional stand on things.....he is consistent and has real answers to our problems.

the others use fear to get votes......and the chants of kill, kill, kill.

being a true conservative means that government is out of our lives....only Paul passes this test as the other three have been for big government and less rights.

oh and this bs about gingrich being there for goldwater...there is a video where he states he was for Rockefeller.

the man just lies and lies and lies and lies to get what he wants.

Santorum....hey you know where you stand with that hatemonger.....but between gingrich and romney...its no contest...gingrich is by far the biggest weasel.......he disgusts me to no end.

but 90% of the peoplewho watched the debate will think he was sincere andtelling the truth last night.....and the liberal and conservative media wont call him out on it.

its truly disgusting.

great article by the way.

I can only give him this. At least he is very consistent about his thought and message. The rest just flip flop around with the flux enough to get to be nominated. Crony conservatism.

I have found that most folks who holler "hubris" and " arrogance" are usually the intellectual inferiors of the folks they accuse of those two failings. Bottom line...Gingrich, unlike Obama, IS smarter than everyone else in the room.

so you think Hitler and Mussolini were stupid? what does being "smart" have anything to do with it??

it doesnt mean you are right or on the right path. Gingrich is a liar and a weasel...who will say anything to get people to believe him.

guess its worked.

you need to do a bit more research.

Newt? He is a long time politician who knows the system from inside out, a good debater, an affair manic and that's it. History proves it and so will the future, why? Because not even a President yet but he already picks Sarah as a member of his administration, I wonder why? Any mentalist out there has any idea?

Hubris is a form of blindness, and this Republican primary is a case of the blind leading the blind. Ron Paul is the only honest and consistent man on the stage. I won't be voting for him, because I don't agree with his political philosophy, but I trust him. Those other idiots fall into the category of either incompetent or dishonest or both.

I also find it absolutely amazing, that folks who call Gingrich names...especially ones criticizing his ethics are the same one who advocate a far greater and continuing moral turpitude than Gingrich ever did...and that includes several on this thread.

If you are an advocate of Government forced redistribution of income/wealth, then you are inherently more of a threat to liberty and far more immoral than Gingerich ever thought of being.

    Regards,

    Mike
